Salterns Boatyard has launched the new Poole Explorer 22, which is based on the traditional Poole Canoe. She is an ideal picnic and sunbathing boat for Poole Harbour.
The Poole Canoe originally rounded at both ends is used for hunting and fishing evolved from the shores of Poole Harbour many years ago. The unique flat bottom design of the Poole Canoe allows access to remote parts of the worlds second largest harbour much of it not accessible by modern Deep V boats because of its very shallow draft of 3 inches.
Salterns Boatyard have been building GRP Poole Canoes for local fisherman for many years. But recently decided to develop the design further, launching the Poole Explorer Edition designed as a family boat for sun bathing, fishing and exploring Poole Harbour. Powered by a 30hp electric start Honda 4 stroke, the Poole Canoe will have a sun deck, picnic table, cool box, navigation lights as well as fishing rod holders, a tray in the stern for ring netting and flush decks.
Understated and practical, this flat bottom boat is ideal for the shallow waters and inlets on the islands in Poole Harbour. The flush decks mean there is no need for a bilge pump, which allows it to be left safely on a Swinging Mooring.
